Offense erupts as Wells handles Northridge, 12-2

    BOXSCORE

(April 2, 2008) – Chasen Shreve was 3-for-4 with four RBI and Kris Bryant homered in his third straight game as Bonanza dominated Northridge, Colo., 12-2, Monday afternoon in a game shortened via the mercy rule.

Bryant was 2-for-3 with three RBI while Philip Navarro added three hits, one of which was a double off the left field fence. Nick Bryant added a pair of RBI and a pair of hits and Kyle Ross doubled and singled for Bonanza, which improved to 5-1 at home this season.

"We've been holding down the home field pretty well this season," coach Derek Stafford said. "It's nice to be able to win at home but we need to start getting a few more road wins too."

Junior Josh Wells was solid on the mound for Bonanza (9-9), picking up his first career varsity win in throwing all five innings and allowing just seven hits, no earned runs while striking out four.

The game was a final tune-up before Tuesday's Southwest Division showdown with league rival Bishop Gorman, who is ranked fourth in the nation by Baseball America. The game, scheduled for a 5 p.m. start, will be at Hadlands Park as the Bengals look to even up their league record at 2-2.

"We have nothing to lose against Gorman," Stafford said. "They are the nationally ranked team and we're just battling for a playoff spot. We're going to need to play our best against them because they are a solid team that will make you pay for extra outs and mistakes."
