The win gives Bonanza (15-12) a sweep of the week's schedule and momentum going into Monday's home showdown with Bishop Gorman, which lost Thursday to Sierra Vista. The Bengals have won six of their last seven games heading into the final week of the season.
Delp was 4-for-5 with six RBI while Kyle Ross picked up the win in relief, throwing three scoreless innings and working out of a few jams to give Bonanza a huge lift. The Bengals jumped out to a 7-1 lead but the bats went silent as Shadow Ridge plugged away to tie the game.
Ross was also 2-for-2 at the plate, including a perfectly executed suicide squeeze to add the fourth insurance run in the top of the eighth. Philip Navarro added a pair of hits and a pair of RBI, one of which was a single up the middle after being intentionally walked to load the bases in the top of the eighth. His single blew the game open, continuing Bonanza's longest winning streak of the season.
The Bengals return to league action Monday against Gorman, which is ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to USA Today. Bonanza then travels to Durango for a virtual play-in game, with the winner garnering the fourth-and-final playoff spot in the Southwest Division. Durango lost at home to Spring Valley Thursday night, knotting the Bengals and the Trailblazers in the league standings.
