Chasen Shreve homered and doubled while Nick Bryant — who doubled twice and drove in three runs — and Tomo Delp (two doubles, three RBI, four runs scored) both added four hits apiece as the Bengals (7-6) moved over the .500 mark for the first time season.
"It's nice to get over that hump, especially because we've been in pretty much every ball game but haven't been able to close some teams out," coach Derek Stafford said. "Today we took care of business and tomorrow we get a chance to practice and tighten things up before we open league play Thursday."
Sophomore Kris Bryant tripled twice and drove in four runs while Jordan Hanley added a pair of hits and an RBI. The win was the first road win of the season for Bonanza, which has been unbeaten at home yet winless on the road — the Bengals won two games last week on neutral turf against a pair of California schools.
Philip Navarro (1-0) picked up the win, allowing just two hits and no runs. He was the only Bengal pitcher of the four who made appearances in the game to not allow a run.
Now the Bengals look to Thursday's Southwest Divisional opener at Spring Valley, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The division of seven sends just four teams to the playoffs, with every league game being of the utmost importance.
"The preseason is now over and it's time for us to go and battle," Stafford said. "Any team that makes the playoffs from this division has a legitimate shot at a regional title and more. The last three state champs have come out of our division, and that says a lot about the talent around the league."
