Sierra Vista hands Bonanza its first home loss of the season, 9-4

BOXSCORE

(March 31, 2008) – Unbeaten at home and looking for its first league win of the season, Bonanza's baseball team fell to Sierra Vista, 9-4, Monday afternoon.

Sierra Vista scored nine runs in the first four innings and the Bengals (7-8, 0-2 SW) couldn't answer despite collecting 12 hits. The loss was Bonanza's second in a row after winning three straight heading into league play.

"We just have to keep battling," coach Derek Stafford said. "It's very early in the league season to panic. We have Clark on Wednesday and then we have Gorman and Durango next week, which makes next week a very important week for us. If we can win one or both of those, we'll be in a very good position in the division."

Chasen Shreve was 2-for-3 with a double while Kris Bryant was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double. Tomo Delp also tripled and Chris Antoku added a pair of hits. Sophomore David Pettis (2-3) was saddled with the loss, allowing eight earned runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched.

Bonanza returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Clark. Shreve will take the mound as the Bengals look to win their first league game of the season.
