Bengals clinch first playoff berth since 2006
(Nov. 20, 2007) –
Bonanza won its first playoff game since 2006, upending the Northwest Division's No. 2 seed, Arbor View, in a dramatic 3-2 victory. Hunter Davidson's RBI single in the top of the seventh inning drove in Sterling Sprau, who slid around the tag at the plate, to give Bonanza (17-12) the lead for good.
Starting pitcher, Mario Franzese (3-1, 1.45 ERA) induced a game-ending double play with the tying run at third to close the game out. Franzese went the distance, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking our either and driving in another run at the plate on a fielder's choice. Senior Kris Bryant doubled and scored a run in the win as well.
Bonanza returns to action Wednesday at Centennial against top-seeded Bishop Gorman, who edged Centennial High School in its first round matchup. The game begins at 1 p.m.
